Shannon Star (b. 1995) is a BFA student majoring in Photography and Printmaking at the University of Akron, where she expects to graduate in December 2017. At the University of Akron, she is both the President of the Photo Association and the Secretary of the Printmaking Association. In her Photography, she works in both the film and digital realms with a preference for portraits or still lifes that involve subjects that have qualities paralleled in people. In her Printmaking, Shannon works primarily in Screen-Print, Intaglio, and Relief to appropriate imagery. In both fields she tends to take on serious topics that are often controversial or difficult to discuss, such as the ideas of mental illness and abuse, using bright colors to contrast and lighten the abrasiveness of such topics. In her spare time, Shannon enjoys creating zines, drawing, and occasionally painting.
